With animal overpopulation at crisis levels—nationally, eight million pets enter animal shelters each year—adopting from an animal shelter is more important than ever before.

SEAACA has five divisions all involved in the provision of animal care and control services. They are Patrol, Veterinarian Clinic, Kennel and Care Center, Licensing, plus our Shelter Office Team. What does SEAACA do for pet owners and citizens in our city? Here is just a sample:

  • SEAACA's Animal Control Officers (ACOs) are trained animal care and humane law enforcement officers. They can enforce state and local ordinances to ensure the safety of animals and citizens in our city.

  • SEAACA coordinates with other Animal Welfare/Adoption Partner groups to place adoptable pets into loving homes. Over 3,700 animals were adopted last year from the SEAACA center.

  • SEAACA provides education to the community by visiting local school classrooms and community groups, hosting presentations, and orchestrating adoption fairs and vaccination clinics.

  • Every animal that is adopted from the shelter is spayed or neutered. A veterinarian is available for after care of animals adopted from SEAACA for the first 30 days after adoption.

  • Adoptable pets from SEAACA are featured on PetFinder.com, PetHarbor.com, AdoptaPet.com, and many other pet adoption websites.

  • SEAACA works to reunite lost pets with their owners.

  • Low-cost vaccinations, de-worming, flea treatment, and microchip identification are available to the public.

Our City and SEAACA are working together to provide exceptional Animal Care and Control Services to our residents by Patrol Officers within our city and at the Animal Care Center in Downey. The Animal Care Center is located at:
